let’s talk about the weather
let’s talk about the weather
a kind of leaf has a life span of a year
bursts into fruition, a world to come to
first sweat of dew
new life perfume
i’m flying down my street
writing about the colors of spring
yet it’s always my nose that knows it first
the concrete boils with odor of piss
but the buds have turned into beds
of strong petals - now, in waltzes summer’s desires:
fall in love
lay in ecstasy
the sun governs our happiness
the birds are delirious
we forget how summer ends
we forget that it ends
until the rains of autumn come
for only a brief moment the foliage shows off the final colors
and lay down a carpet to waltz out of
while we entertain ourselves with crunching leaves
crunching gracefully they reach the end
i was standing at the door to the courtyard
staring at the grey of leaves like rags hanging limp from the trees
i pay my respects
they were the colors of napoleon’s crown just yesterday
winter has come because my skin is tense.
